MUSIC ACTIVIST/PROFESSIONAL COACH/INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKER
Roeshdien Jaz, known in the industry as ‘Mr Jaz’ released his first radio single ‘Feel for Life’ in 2010. It featured well known Cape Town Emcee Jean-Pierre from the multi-genre urban fusion band Supadan and Black Noise. The single was well-received across local radio stations and spent 13 weeks on the Heart 104.9fm SA Top 10 charts, 3 weeks at number ONE. It then entered the International Top 30 charts with Paul Playdon on the same radio station, also received generous airplay on radio stations in the UK and Thailand, respectively.
It all started with his first stage performance as an Italian gangster, alongside the likes of Jody Abrahams, Alistair Izobel and Emo Adams, in the theatre production ‘Bugsy Malone’ at the tender age of 10, at the Joseph Stone Auditorium (Athlone). It was directed by the much respected Farouk Valley Omar, better known for his work in theatre production, as the ‘Blind Man’ in the original District 6 production, directed by the late Taliep Peterson and David Krama.
In 1994, Roeshdien debuted in the biblical movie ‘Out of Jerusalem’ with famous American actor James Brolin (Hotel). He also performed at The Grahamstown Festival with Nazley George (Creative School Of Speech & Drama), and attended a local community Music College (PRompt), with lecturers among the likes of Camillo Lombard (TOP DOG BAND), Grenville Williams, Wayne Bosch, Denver Furness, Sophia Foster, and classmates whom included SAMA Award winning artist, Claire Phillips. Later that same year, he started a hip hop/RNB band Kwaai2 and released a single, on GHFM, called, ‘Get to know you’, produced by Grenville Williams (Godessa/Moodphase5).

On the 26 September 2012, Roeshdien was confronted with his biggest life challenge. Overcoming a battle with Colon Cancer. After 5 weeks in Kingsbury Hospital, three major surgeries, eight rounds of chemotherapy, an Ileostomy bag attached to the right side of his tummy and regular check-ups every 4 – 6 months. He is now even more driven to use every single skill, gift, talent and life experience that he has been blessed with, to continue to add value to the lives of the people around him, be it through his music, the community development work he does as the very first official ‘Brand Ambassador’ for the ‘Cornerstone Institute’ for Higher Learning, ‘The Cape Town School of Songwriting’, ‘The Academy of Life Coaching’, a Board Member of one of SA’s Premier Annual Music/Film/Media Conferences, ‘Music Exchange’(NPC) or in his personal capacity as highly competent Inspirational/Public Speaker, all of which he has come to believe to be his soul purpose.
His very popular single ‘Inside ‘n Out’ is a catchy feel-good tune, one that was destined to become one of the Summer 2014 hits. Written and produced by Clive Ridgway. Made its way into both the SA Top 10, International Top 30 on Heart 104.9fm with Paul Playdon, as well as the International Top 10 on Smile 90.4fm radio.
‘It’s a quirky, happy love song, about being in love and how your entire world gets swung ‘upside down’ and ‘inside out’, said Roeshdien. ‘The sky is blue-er, roses are redder, you are walking on air, you can’t stop smiling. And the desire to want to share this overwhelming emotion that truly magnifies the human experience, is irresistible (Being in love).

‘Inside ‘n Out’ is a simple, joyful love song. I thought it would be a great track for Roeshdien as it has a ‘groovy’ beat and melody to show off his unique vocal phrasing, and playful words to show off his sense of fun, said Ridgway. ‘His musicality, mindfulness and generosity made this project a light and joyful one. Thank you, Roeshdien’
