ROESHDIEN JAZ releases a brand new single, fresh off his recent special feature in the legendary Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse’s limited (Covid-0) live stream of his 2018 historic return to the iconic Baxter Theatre to raise funds for all the artists, production team and the Baxter Theatre during the lockdown.
A brand-new remix of his 2018 summer (Single) “Want What You Can’t Have”, featuring one of his biggest inspirations. Cape Town Legendary Female Emcee/Vocalist, EJ VON LYRIK (GODESSA). A must-have in your 2020 #Lockdown #MusicWithAPurpose (Tropical House/Dance/Hip Hop/Trap/Fusion/Club Banger), playlist, produced by Samuziq Beats/Gimme Moe Music Productions. The track is released in support and in association with the Ihata Shelter for abused women and children in Heideveld Cape Town, respectively (Music with a Purpose).
EJ von LYRIK, currently based in the Netherlands, originally hails from Mitchell’s Plain (Like RJ), on the Cape Flats. She has been writing and performing her own material since 1997 when she turned professional.
Having a distinct interest in music production, EJ started producing her own instrumentals in 2001. Her music is an eclectic mix of funk, rock, dancehall, hip hop and roots reggae. She is a strong advocate for human upliftment and inspiration through the medium of music and therefore her music carries positive messages in her lyrics.
EJ was also a former member of the legendary, all female hip hop group GODESSA. Rated by CHUCK D of the legendary American Hip Hop group PUBLIC ENEMY, as one of his personal Top 5 female MC’s, of All Time, her musicality and versatility, reaches far beyond what is ‘conventionally’ defined as Hip Hop. As a singer she has a beautiful vocal range and her ability to switch between styles of delivery is simply unmatched anywhere in the world.

SIPHO “HOTSTIX” MABUSE, ALONG WITH TONY CEDRAS AND FRIENDS, RETURNS
LIVE DURING LOCKDOWN!
After an absence of more than 30 years, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse and his band, including Paul Simon friend and respected muso Tony Cedras, returned to Cape Town and The Baxter Theatre on Friday 25 October 2018, for ONE NIGHT ONLY!
Fortunately for us all, this sell-out concert was captured on film, and commencing Friday, 29 May 2020, for ONE WEEK ONLY, this two-hour celebration of classic music, new voices and extraordinary light and sound production, will enjoy a new lease on life for a fleeting seven days.
Thanks to the power of digital collaboration with TicketPro, Music Exchange (MEX) , the original producers of the show, have teamed up in 2020, during the height of the current COVID-19 lockdown, to present this very rare and special moment in time for the very first time online.
All proceeds from kind donations received over the seven days will go towards supporting the artists and crew who set the night alight.
The Baxter Theatre, equally compromised by COVID-19 reality, will also benefit with a percentage of the proceeds going towards their solidarity efforts in keeping their critical precinct alive now and well into the future.
Sipho’s long-overdue Mother City return was a night worth capturing in time, if only because the new (Siphokazi Jonas, Roshdien Jaz, Mmino and the South African Youth Choir) and the tried-and-tested powerhouse that is “Hotstix” delivered a one-of-a-kind performance that’s finally being repeated!

ROESHDIEN JAZ BRAND NEW SUMMER SINGLE 2017: DOWN BY THE WATERFRONT
Mr Jaz sings a little song for the summer – smooth, funky and fun. It’s a simple song about people and places we love; The Waterfront, Table Mountain, Robben Island, fish and chips, the smell of coffee and music in the moonlight. “That special place that ‘connects us’ with the rest of the world…” says Roeshdien.
